Since 1985, Yellowstone Angler has been nestled between big cottonwood trees just south of Livingston, Montana on Highway 89. George Anderson opened the Yellowstone Angler in 1979 and the shop ran out of downtown Livingston before moving to the current location. Yellowstone Angler is a full-service fly shop, complete with rigging and flies for nearly any pursuit. Don't let the location in Montana's Absarokee Mountains fool you, the shop not only caters to the trout crowd but also saltwater, spey, and even some spin fishermen.
In the summertime, the shop parking lot is full of guide rigs preparing for their day on the water with clients. Drift boat trailers shuffle around outside while inside flies, rods, reels, and more added to shopping bags and excited voices share their best fishing stories. Besides guiding and retail, the Yellowstone Angler is well known for its gear shootouts. They take a certain weight of rod or reel and put dozens of the top models through an extensive series of tests and rank them head to head. If you are visiting southwest Montana or Yellowstone National Park, be sure to stop in!
