We've been tying and fishing this stripped down variation of Lance Egan's Rainbow Warrior for a few years now. Though it’s flashy body doesn’t look like anything natural, it mimics a midge larva or mayfly nymph and constantly puts fish in the net. There's an inherent bugginess about this fly and purple is one of those colors that seems to drive trout crazy.
This is another one of our favorite patterns to fish year round as a point fly on a nymph rig or a dropper beneath a dry fly.
