Summer's nearly here, and that means it's time to start thinking top to bottom when rigging up. With below-average snowpack across much of the Rockies, water levels are already running low, and river temps are warming fast. That combo brings one key takeaway: bugs are hatching early, and fish are looking up. In other places where water conditions are closer to normal, this is only couple weeks away.

Our Q2 fly selection is built to help you take full advantage of the conditions, whether you’re throwing bushy dries into pocket water or dredging the bottom with tungsten nymphs. Here's how we’re fishing them:

1. Meadow Hopper—Lime #10
2. Yakoda Chimera—Black #12
3. Royal Stimulator—#14
4. Golde Stonefly Nymph
5. Black and Olive Crystal Mini Bugger
6. Yakoda Green Machine—#16
7. Yakoda Lip Sticker—Purple #14
8. Green Caddis Larva—#14
9. Green Humpy—#16
10. Rainbow Warrior—#18

Dry-Dropper Combos: The Go-To Rig

With opportunistic fish rising early, this is the time to fish a dry-dropper. Use a high-floating dry to suspend a small nymph or emerger a foot or two below.

Meadow Hopper + Green Machine

  • Ideal for fast riffles or pocket water. Offer them a dry and nymph. Drop the Yakoda Green Machine 18”-24” off the back on 5x. Twitch it slightly for movement—fish will take either fly.

Green Humpy + Green Caddis larva

  • Double down on caddis with these two patterns in slower runs and riffles where fish are sipping just below the surface. The Humpy floats well while the Caddis Larva covers the middle column where emerging insects are easy pickings for a hungry trout

Royal Stimulator + Rainbow Warrior

  • Perfect for prospecting, this combines a classic attractor with a buggy but flashy midge / baetis dropper. Great for freestone rivers or alpine streams.

Yakoda Chimera + Yakoda Lip Sticker

  • Our favorite combo of the bunch with great versatility that can be fished virtually anywhere. The Chimera is highly buoyant with a smaller profile, ideal for tricking fish, while the Lip Sticker is a glorified fish magnet. Be prepared for a lot of eats on both flies.

The Chimera

Indicator/Euro-Style Nymphing

If you’re not seeing rises or the sun’s high overhead, it’s time to nymph.

Black & Olive Crystal Bugger + Yakoda Green Machine

  • This is your bottom-dredger. Use a medium indicator or tight-line it through deep runs. The Black and Olive Crystal Bugger gets their attention; the Green Machine seals the deal.

Golden Stonefly Nymph + Green Caddis Larva

  • A killer combo for tailouts and slower pockets, where a more natural presentation really shines. Both of these flies are hyper realistic and the larger stone adds just enough flash to grab attention. The Green Caddis Larva is more subtle and often gets more wary fish to eat.

Yakoda Lip Sticker + Rainbow Warrior

  • A true attractor-pattern setup. The buggier Lip Sticker up front grabs attention while the always-productive Rainbow Warrior cleans up behind it. A killer combo when fish are feeding opportunistically or you’re covering lots of water.

Dry Fly Only

When you hit a hatch or see heads poking up, it’s game on. A double dry doubles your chances…don’t overthink it.

Meadow Hopper + Green Humpy

  • Fish it dead-drift with the occasional twitch. Especially effective in the evenings or over shaded banks.

Royal Stimulator + Yakoda Chimera

  • The high-floating Royal Stimulator makes an excellent lead fly, while the Yakoda Chimera highlights a range of different flies with a smaller profile.
