Unleash the voodoo hex of the partridge feather. In smaller sizes, this fly does an excellent job imitating emerging midges and mayflies, while the larger sizes suggest caddis and bigger mayflies. On any given day, we’ll have a soft hackle somewhere on our rig and this unweighted variety is a perfect trailer fly for swinging on your nymphing set up. It can also be dropped under a dry fly to imitate a bug that’s ready to emerge. However you choose to fish these, be prepared for aggressive, predatory strikes, just like you see when streamer fishing.
